Description
This dataset consists of transcribed interviews and texts on the experiences of cultural researchers regarding science communication, publishing research findings, and cooperating with the media. The main theme in the interviews and texts was communicating science to the general public. The participants discussed, for instance, public presentations, informing the public about research findings, and giving interviews on different media platforms. The data were collected for a Master's thesis and include seven interviews and six texts. Three of the texts were sent directly to the researcher and the remaining three were collected using FSD's Penna data collection tool. The participants were asked to discuss how they had previously collaborated with media outlets or platforms, whether the collaboration had been a good experience, and whether their experiences had varied depending on the media outlet/platform (e.g. TV, radio, and newspapers). Social media, blogs, and podcasts and their role in science communication were also described by the participants. Finally, the participants were asked about the communication activities that were part of their work, and they were requested to evaluate the adequacy of their own communication skills. Background information included the participant's gender, age, and field of research. The data were organised into an easy to use HTML version at FSD. The dataset is only available in Finnish.
